PLATE 68Between Rocks and Hard PlacesChapter VIII · Fields & Wildflowers
I got down flat in the sand to meet this one at its own level, which the spines had some strong opinions about. It was no taller than my shin, tucked into a seam of weathered sandstone, and it had still gone and put up two flowers the color of bright amethyst. Nature never ceases to amaze! Between rocks and hard places it still finds a way to send forth its beauty.
