I'd been kneeling near the thistle long enough to start to cramp in both legs before this fritillary finally opened up in the sun. There was a second butterfly working the far edge and a bumblebee down low, all of us after the same patch of purple. Midday light is usually too harsh for my liking, but it lit those wings like stained glass, so I quit complaining and took the picture.
