PLATE 10Two SkiesChapter I · The Night Sky
The wind quit right at dusk, and for that brief period when night fights to replace day, the lake went so still it held the whole sky twice over. I set the tripod on the rocks and kept quiet while the last blue of the day burned out along the tree line and the stars came up to take its place in the approaching dark. You don't get water this flat or a transition of this hue very often, so you learn to stay put when you find it.
