PLATE 6Ceiling LightChapter VI · The Desert Southwest
I got here in the dark and waited with my hands in my pockets, watching the sky and hoping it would hold. With the sun finally just below the horizon in front of me, its light bounced up under the arch and lit the whole underside like a coal, while the canyon stayed blue and cold below. The snow was still on the far peaks, and for a few minutes the rock did all the work and I just kept the camera still.
