PLATE 25Off the Beaten PathChapter II · The High Country
The trails are deep and well worn in the Sawtooths, so occasionally it benefits one to forgo said trail. Here we hauled ourselves up onto a slab of warm granite to catch the view from a seldom seen perspective. Below, there it was, the gem of a lake so still it kept the far ridge upside down in the water. The clouds were doing just enough to keep the sky honest, and for a while I forgot the camera and just stood and appreciated. That happens more than I like to admit up here.
