PLATE 24InterventionChapter II · The High Country
The sun going down on another eventful day in the Sawtooths. One of our horses lost its composure on a tight, steep switchback, causing two other horses to follow suit. Panic is contagious regardless of the species apparently. Fine horsemanship, a fortuitous piece of flat mountain where there usually isn't any, and what can only be construed as Divine Intervention prevented certain disaster and led us to the shores of this beautiful lake. With its dying light we were able to witness the sun paint the whole ridge the color of a live coal before it faded to plain rock. Being able to take in this brief moment of serenity and mirrored beauty is quite the contrast to what could have been.
