PLATE 22The Promised SignChapter II · The High Country
I'd been waiting out a squall in a quickly set-up tent, half-soaked and about to call it a night, when the sky cracked open and once again gave us that long ago promised sign behind the lake. The last light found one granite peak and held it just long enough for the water to go semi-still, attempting to copy the whole thing back. Up in the high country you learn the good stuff tends to show up right after you've given up on it.
