PLATE 26HopefulChapter II · The High Country
The storm had beaten us earlier, but during a lull we had to give the fish one more go. I had just gotten on the lake when my friend yelled from the distant shore, "Dru, the rainbow!" I turned to witness a wonderful sight. The sun had slipped through the clouds in the east and lit one snow-dusted peak like a struck match. The rainbow came down right on top of it, doubled. Rain still hung in gray sheets over the rest of the range, yet to the west, a hint of clear sky left me hopeful the the storm would soon pass. In the high country, as in life, given time, they always do.
