When the fish aren't cooperating I always hope the shoreline will. This day I was in luck. Avocets only wear this cinnamon for a few weeks in spring. I knelt down on the gravel trying not to spook them when a handful decided they'd had enough of me and lifted off all at once. The rest just stood there in the cold water, unbothered, and let me have the picture.
