PLATE 48Wheels UpChapter IV · The Wetlands
I'd been still on the water long enough that the pelicans quit minding me, and then the whole raft decided to leave at once. The low morning sun caught the black on their wingtips and the orange on their bills while one bird was still fighting to drag its feet off the water. Out here the desert hills go soft and purple behind them, and you learn the good moment shows up all at once or not at all.
