PLATE 1Lines, Layers and Lingering SmokeChapter IV · The Wetlands
I was down at the water before any light that would announce the start of a new day, mostly hoping for something different, something lasting. As color painted the east, I saw the ridges layered in the soft blue of first light. I saw the sky accented, differentiated by the lingering smoke of western fires. I saw the lines created on a mostly calm lake. And then they came by, six of them low and quiet, in front of the layered ridge tops, above where the sky was pouring into the lake. I got several quick frames before they were gone, and honestly the background did most of the work that morning.
