I got down low at the shoreline while the avocets worked the shallows, and the rest of the flock seemed to decide at once that this patch of water was worth landing on. The light was flat and cool coming off the mountain, which was fine by me. It let those rusty heads do all the talking. The gulls on the gravel had clearly seen the show before and their disinterest showed.
